Wiki Loves Monuments 2016: press conference at BASE Milano

On Tuesday September 6th, at BASE Milano, was took place the launch press conference of “Wiki Loves Monuments Italia”. During the press conference have been revealed the 2016 news about the national edition of the contest, which globally this year gets the participation of quite 43 States. Some of these join for the first time: Bangladesh, Turchia, Nigeria, Peru e South Korea. Among the most important news, the cooperation with BASE Milano, the current seat of Wikimedia Italia, and Enegan Gas e Luce sponsorship; which joins the historical sponsors Euronics Italia and Canon Italia. Furthermore, the 2016 edition of “Wiki Loves Monuments 2016” gets the record for the number of special prizes, fourteen in total, which must be added to ten national awards. During the conference, Cristian Cenci (WLM Project Manager) reminded that many local contests have grown until becoming regional ones. It is the case, for example, of “Wiki Loves Busto Arsizio” and “Fiumefreddo”, that became respectively “Wiki Loves Lombardia” and “Wiki Loves Tirreno Cosentino”. Nevertheless Wiki Loves Monuments is not only a web contest: indeed the photographic tours represent also a meeting opportunity for the photography fans. WikiTrip and edit-a-thon at Museo dell'Aeronautica Gianni Caproni

On August 27th a WikiTrip and a edit-a-thon were held at the Museo dell'Aeronautica Gianni Caproni. A group of Wikipedians, mostly members of Italian Wikipedia's Aviation Project, visited the museum and therefore created and edited several pages related airplanes or pilots, using the bibliographic sources made available by the curators. The participants had the opportunity to experience a flight simulator!
The museum, founded in 1927 by the Trentino aviation pioneer Gianni Caproni near Milan, has seat in Trento from 1992.

Wikisource at the Smart City Week of Trento

From 10 to 15 September, for the Smart city Week event, Wikimedia Italia organizes at the Trento City Library a "Re-reading Workshop" for learning to contribute to Wikisource". During the workshop, important texts for the Trentito culture and territory, such as Lino Bonomi, Luigi Wözl, Romedio Callicioli, Tito Bassetti e Antonio Pranzelores texts, will be reread. This event is part of the project "Create and spread knowledge through collaborative digital tools: the library and Wikipedia". More information at the dedicated page on Wikipedia. Women in Nursing & Women Labor Activists editathon

For September 2016, the members of the user group WikiDonne organize two editathon dedicated to the writing on Wikipedia of articles about women which distinguished themselves in medical, nursing, union and political fields. Everyone can join! The event is promoted in cooperation with Women in Red on Wikipedia project: is possible to enroll on Facebook. WikiDonne is a group composed by editress and editors that take part to the WikiDonne project on Wikipedia: they write articles about women, accomplish cooperation with other similar movements and promote meetings.
