L’anonimato è qualcosa che fa parte di questo mondo, ma in realtà tante persone in Italia e all’estero hanno conosciuto il grande valore del contributo di Alessio.<br/>

Non che sia importante, ma io e Cotton non eravamo amici: ci siamo conosciuti (come tantissimi) in Wikimedia Italia, e per me era (nel senso più alto che posso dare a questa parola) un collega, un compagno in un'avventura importante. Insieme (insieme a tantissime altre persone) abbiamo lavorato per andare avanti, per far crescere quella cosa che chiamiamo Wikimedia Italia che altro non è, per me, che portare i valori di Wikipedia fuori dal computer, far capire alle persone che si può collaborare per fare cose meravigliose, che non servono sempre soldi per costruire qualcosa di bello, che si possono fare cose belle ma anche utili, che aperto è meglio che chiuso, trasparente è meglio di opaco, insieme è meglio che soli.

Su Wikipedia patroller, in Wikimedia tesoriere. Il tesoriere uno dei ruoli più delicati, ma anche più noiosi: Cotton teneva i conti, stendeva il budget, pagava i rimborsi spesa, pagava l'affitto e gli stipendi. Era un lavoro serio, e lui era lì e lo faceva. Era un uomo pragmatico, di poche parole e tante battute. Ci si litigava volentieri, e c'era sempre da divertirsi con lui.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Alessio Guidetti, known within Wikipedia as Cotton. He was treasurer of the association for about five years, from 2009 until last April. His death leaves an unfillable void in Wikimedia Italia.

We think that the best way to tell you who was Alessio Guidetti is to share the beautiful message that friends and volunteers of the Wikimedia movement wrote in his memory.

Alessio Guidetti

Alessio Guidetti was the person running the newspapers' kiosk in front of the church of Chiesanuova in Padua, and he was a Wikipedian: a volunteer who participated in the construction of the online encyclopedia called Wikipedia.

I think Wikipedia is an ideal (free access to free knowledge) with a project all around it. Over the time a community of people has been formed by gravity, by concretion: a community of people equally and differently passionate.
Cotton (I did not call him Alessio a single day of my life) was one of these people.
