Report Seyedmostafa Moeini

Taking part in FOSS4G-IT & OSMit 2026 in Trento was a very positive experience for me, both professionally and personally. It was also my first experience as a speaker at a conference, which made the event especially memorable for me. I am very happy that my first conference presentation took place in such a welcoming and well-organized environment. It was a great opportunity to meet people working with open-source geospatial technologies, exchange ideas, and discover different applications of QGIS, OpenStreetMap, and other tools.

I also had the opportunity to present my work, “A GIS-based procedure for preliminary time-dependent rockfall risk assessment at medium scale,” during the Academic Track. The work is based on an open-source QGIS workflow for rockfall hazard and risk assessment, using QPROTO for hazard analysis and QRADE for risk assessment. Presenting it at the conference was especially valuable for me because I could share my research with the FOSS4G community and receive feedback from people with different technical and academic backgrounds.

One of the things I appreciated most was seeing how open-source geospatial tools are being developed and used in such a wide range of fields and real-world applications. The event also strengthened my interest in making GIS workflows more reproducible, accessible, and useful for both researchers and practitioners.

I am very grateful to Wikimedia Italia for the support, which gave me the opportunity to participate in the event, present my work, and connect with the open-source geospatial community.

Thank you again for this opportunity and for your support.
