As you may recall, all this has been possible thanks to an agreement signed with the Italian Ministry of Arts and Culture, which allowed us to add many sites to our competition. For the first time their photos could be published under CC BY-SA.

For the competition we identified and geotagged 936 monuments in Italy, building so a first (small!) list of Italian cultural heritage. But we did not just stay behind our computers! In September we had many "photo walks", organized in collaboration with local authorities and organizations, in Asti, Bologna, Ferrara, Modena, Pavia, Schio, Luzzi and in Valle d'Aosta, happily taking photos together.

October will see the jury in action: they will be working to select the Italian winners for the Italian prizewinning ceremony. And there's more! We are organizing a traveling exhibition with the best photos shooted.

A special thank you goes to all the participating photographers, to our sponsors, to the institutions involved in the project and to all the enthusiastic helpers who allowed us to achieve these outstanding results.

The first Italian edition of Wiki Loves Monuments, the photo contest to document the cultural heritage, just ended.
