Wiki Loves Monuments, Assembly, Fundraising

See you at our Assembly?

On October 20th Wikimedia Italia will held its Annual Assembly in Pisa. As usual, the assembly is a public and open meeting for discussion and planning. Everyone is welcome! We will describe the projects we had made during 2012 and discuss the activities for 2013.

Wiki Loves Monuments 2012

The first Italian edition of Wiki Loves Monuments, the photo contest to document the cultural heritage, just ended. Thanks to the participation of more than 800 photographers, nearly 8000 new photos have been uploaded to Commons, so that they can be used to illustrate Wikipedia entries. As you may recall, all this has been possible thanks to an agreement signed with the Italian Ministry of Arts and Culture, which allowed us to add many sites to our competition. For the first time their photos could be published under CC BY-SA. For the competition we identified and geotagged 936 monuments in Italy, building so a first (small!) list of Italian cultural heritage. But we did not just stay behind our computers! In September we had many "photo walks", organized in collaboration with local authorities and organizations, in Asti, Bologna, Ferrara, Modena, Pavia, Schio, Luzzi and in Valle d'Aosta, happily taking photos together. October will see the jury in action: they will be working to select the Italian winners for the Italian prizewinning ceremony. And there's more! We are organizing a traveling exhibition with the best photos shooted. A special thank you goes to all the participating photographers, to our sponsors, to the institutions involved in the project and to all the enthusiastic helpers who allowed us to achieve these outstanding results.

Do you want to help us for Wiki Loves Monuments, 2013 edition? :)

Fundraising 2012

Wikimedia Italy survives only thanks to the financial support of people. We need it to support free culture.

For 2012, we plan a fundraising campaign that will involve you even more both with us and with our activities, in support of Wikimedia Foundation projects, and more generally of free knowledge in Italy.
